I am a research fellow at the School of Computing and Centre of eIntegrated Care (CeIC), Dublin City University, with a Lero-ALECS Marie Curie fellowship. I am also affiliated with the Innovation Value Institute (IVI) at Maynooth University. I am currently working on patient empowerment by facilitating acquisition, comprehension and learning of health information on the Internet (https://healthempowerment.lero.ie/). My research interests include e-health, smart cities, data analytics, machine learning, information retrieval and Open Data/Big Data. I have authored fifty peer-reviewed articles for journals, books and conferences.
I hold a PhD in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Telecommunications from the University of Palermo and have over thirty years of professional experience in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in different working environments, such as academia, industry and government.
