Page Writers Retreat

Lero plans to run an annual writers' retreat for postgraduate students and researchers. The retreat involves going to an off-campus location to concentrate on writing in a writer-friendly environment. Experienced writers are available to discuss writing techniques in group or individual sessions. The retreat allows researchers to focus on a specific writing project. The writers' retreats have been shown to benefit researchers' output.

The 2009 Lero Writers’ Retreat took place in Temple Spa, Co. Westmeath from October 7th to October 9th 2009.  The workshop was facilitated by David Alan Grier, Associate Professor of International Science and Technology Policy and International Affairs, George Washington University.  David used the book Style: The Basics of Clarity and Grace by Joseph WIlliams during the workshop. 10 Lero PhD students attended the 2009 retreat and all participants enjoyed the distraction free setting and were happy to spend time thinking about structure, coherence and cohesion of their writing.
